I can get 2 queen sized + a few crib/wall quilts from one can. I've basted a quilt, forgot it in the back of my minivan in a hot California summer and 3 months later took it out, hit it with a steam iron and it was as good as new(ly sprayed). It's very repositionable, too.

Yes, it's stinky so I have to use it outside. I've tried 505 and it's NOT stinky - though I'd still use it outside because of the overspray! I did a price comparison on Sullivan's and 505 and the Sullivan's is about 25-30% less expensive.

My June Tailor memories are gummy and not very pleasant. ;-)Fiber Babblehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01428452420851112349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-72627045931839245572011-03-05T12:21:07.155-05:002011-03-05T12:21:07.155-05:00I use 505 for spray basting, mostly because that&#...I use 505 for spray basting, mostly because that's all that's available here. Since Joann is now selling June Tailor I have been using that, and using a coupon. Seems to hold much better than Sullivans, but think I might be overspraying. The needle is slightly gummy when I remove it after a project is complete. The only thing I don't like about spray basting is the smell, I always do it outside.Betty Louhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17940088470996658852noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-82279393449698705912011-03-02T08:52:44.552-05:002011-03-02T08:52:44.552-05:00I buy Sullivan's online and LOVE it. I spray it on lightly. Can reposition successfully. I use a few catch pins around the edges, not a lot. I don't think I need to but it makes me feel better. Spray basted 3 small quilts so far. When I shake the can, it feels almost full. I won't make another quilt without spray basting. It is expensive, though, so for small items, like mug rugs, coasters, pot holders, and placemats I use Rave 4 hairspray from Walmart. However - hairspray is NOT repositionable, and doesn't hold up well if you have to roll your fabric while quilting. The first one I tried was the June Tailor, it was easy to find at walmart and at Joann's, but it didn't hold that well towards the end of the quilting and I ended up ripping out stitches because of it. I switched to Sullivans and loved it. It worked great. Now I use Fusible batting and really like it, no overspray or gummed up needles.Dana Gaffneyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02023202806714127984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-71080671289601309812011-03-01T14:07:12.933-05:002011-03-01T14:07:12.933-05:00I see that two others mentioned hairspray. Hubby uses it for woodworking. I'm sure it would gum up your machine and needle. If you decide to use it, maybe try it on a few pieces of scrap material first. And is there anyone you know who might have some you could try instead of buying first. Just a thought.
