Ok, so I wasn't sure what I was going to use this on for a review.

Then it hit me, the items I make the most....

Up Cycled/Re purposed/Recycled Wrapper Coin Purses

I've made and sold a ton of these.

Normally, I would use a regular glue stick to sandwich the "wrapper" between two

pieces of vinyl. For this A&W coin purse, I used the Lapel Stick.

What a difference it was, it glided along the vinyl so much smoother than a glue stick.

Another factor I have to think about if I'm going to use these more often, is if it will dry clear.

It has to dry clear. IT DOES!

I also noticed the wrapper covered in vinyl was easier to turn inside out and wasn't so heavy with glue.

I'm thinking I like these Lapel Sticks.

I had planned to go in order, to make these in order as they are in the book.

Well, I skipped 3, cause it had a curve in it.

Here's block 4-Basket Weave

again, this block was paper pieced

I took a tip from a friend and kept the paper on all pieces,

then sewed the whole block together

i think that helped a lot

I also think I'll keep the paper on till I get ready to assemble the quilt

ABC Plush Cotton/Fabric Toy Set

I saw these over on The Vintage Sheet blog.

She offered some tips on how she did her based on another blog.

I changed some things up as well, as we all do to make a project a touch of our own.

these are for my sweet nephew, Kentlee

his birthday is the 11th and he'll be 2

they are very easy to make

it probably took me longer to make the letters in WORD

and get them the font I wanted and the size I wanted,

than to cut out the fabric and trace each letter.

I saved it, cause i'll be making more of these.

I did add a small neodymium magnet (very nice magnet's in a small size)

in mine, she made hers without magnets.

I don't have any pinking shears.

I used a pinking rotary blade, which to me, was a pain.

I've just ordered a pair of pinking shears.

That should make it easier to get into those small spaces and around

each letter better.

She mentioned using a darker colored thread so it would show up.

I did leave white on the back, so that as he gets older or maybe now

(he'll be 2) he'll recognize the dark size as being the right side.

I think next time I'd choose a small print fabric, this was Elmo

but hardly anywhere can you point out Elmo. lol

I'm finding the paper pieced blocks are in 3-4 pieces, then you have to join them to make the complete block. I'm not fond of that at all. I wish it was all one paper pieced block. Do these exist? Does anyone know?

Attic Windows was one complete block, Autumn Tints was in 4 parts, I guess that's how I got it wonky.

I think I've got paper piecing down pat.

I was worried about trying this technique.

this was my first attempt at paper piecing

this flower is my second attempt

this house was my 3rd attempt, I love the perfect-ness of the lines, it just makes me smile

this is my 4th attempt at paper piecing

I'd say I've got it down pat, would you?

I was worried about this pattern,

I thought it was bigger when I got it, I didn't pay attention to size.

This hat-scarf-mittens hanging will go to live in San Jose, CA

It looks a bit wonky on it's right side, but it's not.

I think now that i've learned paper piecing, I'll do my Farmer's Wife blocks paper pieced.

Now I'm just worried about curved pieces in those blocks. eeekkkk

Christmas is over and it's time to move on.

Easy for me to say, I didn't decorate a thing...

wait, I did put a wreath on the door. It's down now though.

I think all the presents and boxes all have a home now and out of the

living room floor.

I got a gift certificate to Amazon and below is one of my purchases....

I'll need your help on this one.

I've googled and googled and used ask.com all I can.

I didn't find what I wanted to know.

I even left a few comments on several blogs and NO ONE got back to me.

My questions, and actually I thought once I get the book it might even

answer these questions for me.

Maybe I should wait and see.

Oh heck, let's go ahead.

**Do you use your scraps with these blocks?

**I know there are 111 blocks, how do you know how much fabric you use if you decide not to use scraps?

**Would you use one line of fabric?

**Or would you mix it up?

**I've seen examples of very modern fabric and for some reason I was thinking you would use Civil war era prints or something reproduced?

Any help you all can provide is much appreciated.

Turtles-Show & Tell

we moved our babies (not babies, 8 years old) into a bigger home this week

we had them in a 30 gallon tank

only one get dry their shell at a time and they would fit over the 1 landing

as you can see all 3 drying off, and on the other side, their is 1 all by himself drying off

it's good to let their shells dry out as they want them too

he's not even the biggest one

Dale is the biggest and he's much bigger than my hand

see the little guy over to the far left barely with his head out of water?

the females are bigger, so really our "dale" is a girl, oh well

normally turtles like this will never out grow their space

so, we're a bit concerned they'll grow

that's not our intention for the bigger tank, lol

our plan for the bigger tank is to mate them

we want to make a higher landing and place sand up there

they will only lay eggs in dry sand

it will be a work in progress

we've not read all we can about it yet, so we'll wait till we know all we need to know.

also, we'll have to have a plan for the babies (hmmmm)

yeah, we need to plan this out more

Makeover in E's Room

soooooo, we're in the process of an extreme makeover in E's room

and I mean extreme..

thankfully, i had already painted all his furniture black

oops....except for the bed, i'll get right on that

i've struggled with what the decor will be

i wanted all black (with some white)

he wants black and orange (the colors of our local high school football team)

i'm back to black

and i've just had a brilliant idea (well, i think so)

how about i put these different sayings on his wall?

not all of them, just a select few

and in black self adhesive lettering

and one that says "i love you" -mom

Well, it's all going down tomorrow......

I've spent the weekend doing loads and loads of his laundry.

I've only ever did his laundry about once a month, that's how many clothes he has.

It's crazy!

It's good though, I needed to go through his clothes and this is the perfect time.

So, please remember our little family tomorrow as we dropped our beloved son off.

It's nearly a 2 hr drive, so down there and back will be long.

the next 6-12 months will be the longest of my life

after months and months of planning, psych visits, therapy, rehab and many meetings

we've made the decision along with all his dr's to get E some extensive inpatient therapy

when he hears me talking on the phone to my mom, before he knows it's my mom, he gets really

angry that i'm telling people, so.....to honor my sweet E, i won't go into details on the "internet"

you might remember awhile back i was making a t-shirt quilt from his shirts

well, that was for me while he was away, then of course i'd give it to him when he returned home

well.........it's all jacked up and i'm not sure i can fix it before he goes....i'm actually discourage with the quilt as this point.

he still has one of his baby blankets, i will be taking that while he's away

i wish i wouldn't have messed up the t-shirt quilt

it is what it is...........

Accuquilt Die Applique-A tutorial of sorts, Kinda

i made this from two dies

♥ feathers

even the vase came from the round flower die

you can see that tutorial here

this won't be a step by step tutorial

but I think if I show you what die i cut each piece with

you can put it together fairly quickly

i'm sure y'all could figure it out

but i'll give you some help

the flower petals are made from the blue feathers on the die

the flower stems are made from the stem, of course ;)

the vase is made from the stem as well, see tutorial link above

the leaf, from the left part of the die

and the center of the flower that i have as yellow

is made from the bigger circle

it was super easy to make and with my BABY GO

so much easier

now all you have to do is blanket stitch around it all

it's one a week for 8 weeks

you know how i don't like to follow the rules, i'm a rebel of sorts, i guess

she's doing all her's in red

since it's for Christmas and i love GREEN

she put batting behind her block for a quilted look

she also put french knots on the ends of the letters

i hate french knots....ugghhh

i should say, i hate my french knots

1. I have been unemployed for 3 years now, and sit at my sewing desk probably 8-10 hours a day, up and down of course. Doing crafty things, or school work.

3. President Obama came through our very small town last week. (then again, if you read my blog you knew that all ready)

4. I never knew any of my grandparents. Never had a grandparent. Haven't met my dad either. (it's ok though, makes me stronger)

5. I have the same best friend from high school, however; we are slowly drifting apart. :(

6. I love to go fishing, but terribly afraid of worms. The hubs baits my hook or I use minnows.

7. I'm afraid of the ocean and will not put my feet in it. I have to see the bottom, so that would go for lakes as well.

Blankets Needed!!

My chapter of project linus has been asked to help a neighboring county.

Their hospital has requested 20 blankets a month.

She said there are times they won't use all 20 (thank goodness).

I'm not so sure I can keep up with this demand.

So, I'm asking all my quilty friends for donations of quilts from babies to teenagers.

Blog Page Clean Up

I cleaned up my blog page quite a bit

I had a lot of "junk" on here

I like it a lot better (for now)

I also created a "finished in 2011" list

over there on the right side

and I must say....I'm not very impressed with it

I was sure I had a lot more BIG (cause I only counted big finishes) than that

guess I'd better get to work ☺

i've been wanting to make E a t-shirt quilt since i learned how to sew

i've been saving his shirts and we had a ton

i let him pick out his favorites

normally, i think these are sports themed

but he hasn't really played a lot of sports

so, his are just his favorites

the blocks are 12" square

stabilized and ready to assemble

(i forgot to say, I used wax paper as a temporary stabilizer, it was a lot

cheaper than heat-n-bond)

nearly 2 years ago. i've already started going over my books from that class

i'm not worried about the exam prep class, just the state exam

Magazine Bowl Tutorial

i made this bowl a couple of years ago, but recently wanted to make more

so, i thought a tutorial would be ~~awesome~~ great for ya'll

you can use a full size magazine, they actually go further and it wouldn't take so many pieces

i happen to have a small quilting catalog on hand, so that will work great for this tut

open it to the center and take out the staples

then cut, with your rotary cutter right down the center of the book

you now have doubled your pages

stack of pages & a glue stick

now you're ready to fold & glue

glue down one side of the page, looking at the page just as you see it in this picture

fold in half like this, and glue down the side again

fold in half again, and glue again,

until it looks like this, about 1/2" wide

start making your bowl, by taking one strip and rolling it up into a circle

i use small strips of tape to end and start the next ends and starts

this is what you'll have after a few strips have been rolled onto each other

it's super easy to form a bowl, just push through the center, until it's formed the way you like it

be careful not to push to far though

and the bowl won't be "permanent" until you mod podge it

just brush the mod podge on thick inside and outside the bowl and it will dry clear

and your bowl will be SET

i'd like to see if you make one

Today I went to the "Wilkesboro Open Air Market"

It's kinda like a street fair vs farmer's market.

You have old timer's there selling their garden goods, and some selling honey and

homemade canned items, some selling fresh flowers.

Then you have oodles of crafts.

Becky from Sew in Stitches came several hours back to her home town

of Wilkesboro to sell her awesome goodies.

I picked my self up an vendor application and will start selling there.

They have produce and crafts every Friday from 4-8 through October,

and every 3rd Friday, they have a live band.

How cool is that?

The area is totally shaded.

It actually felt very nice there this evening.

Sooo, I got to thinking (uh huh, yep crazy I know)

There are some things I could improve on.

TJ is going to build me a earring display "thingy" for my earrings.

and stacked them neatly into this old gummie bear container

knowing someone day i would just want to sew something

and all i'd have to do was grab this container and start sewing

well, that's what i did the other day

Yes, this has been done for quite some time. My fancy clothes lines between the two trees finally fell down and so I took a pic inside on the couch. Sorry for the horrible picture. I took this quilt with me to California, so it's well traveled. See the turtles?

Mill Sacks

I love these mill sacks.

I've always wanted to get my hands on some of these.

These are made of muslin type fabric.

I went to their website thinking maybe I could get some seconds or something.

They really didn't have a way to contact them without calling.

I took this apart, and made into a zippered pencil pouch.

Thank you all for your prayers and support over the last month or two.

I think we are starting to climb out of the dark.

Things are looking up.

i wish i could say i had good news, i don't

i asked you all for prayer on a personal matter awhile back

never, ever think things can't get worse.

monday we were dealt a card that i had no idea how to play

we all prayed, and prayed and prayed some more

i know things will work out........eventually

but waiting it out is tough

i continue to ask for your prayers during this extremely difficult time in our lives

I can Cross Stitch Too!

I saved it, and have looked at it every day since she posted it.

I didn't have any cross stitch cloth, hoops or embroidery floss.

I headed to Michael's in Boone yesterday and got all I needed to make this.

so...we finally made it back from california

i thought i'd share my vacation with you all

we covered, santa cruz, san jose, capitola, lake tahoe, nevada county, ripon, sacramento,

donnor lake...we covered a big portion of the northern part

i took my NICE digital camera, but left the xd card here at home and for some

reason, we could not find a card in california

so, my cell phone pics will have to do

and they are not the best

e on the flight out there, he was very nervous and did very well

however; on the flight back, it was very bumpy, rough flight, he got really sick, several times (ewww)

at the Jelly Belly factory, what an awesome place, me and tj had already been there years ago

we knew e would love it

we was going to take the tour, but it was spring break for them as well, and there was about 300 people waiting in line....we didn't want the tour that bad

beautiful scenery on the way to san jose, and if you look closely you can see the moth ball fleet in the delta

we went to In & Out Burger, this was my first trip there

i had my burger wrapped in lettuce (since I can't have bread), so i think i missed the experience of such a great burger

the fries...called "animal style" came with cheese and grilled onions, those were pretty good

tj grandma has a beautiful orange tree in her back yard, it was loaded too

e had the most fun picking oranges

he picked two grocery bags full and we had fresh orange juice the next morning

so pretty

gg (great grandma) hid some easter eggs for e and they all had money inside

here he's counting his loot

let me try to explain this one

i'm a country girl, we all know it and i'm a sucker for a BIG truck

i love em

and when i saw this one in the big city of san jose, i instantly felt at home

i saved the best one for last

i know this might be a normal price for some of you

but even at my local quilt shop that is expensive, their only $1.99

i was appalled by this price

i brought home something permanent from Lake Tahoe

we have some issues with E right now

nothing medical

i can't share what's going on, it's just too personal

however; i did want to share what helps me get through this

i hand quilted this in two days

i quilted around each white part

i even hand stitched the binding down on the back

since i did so much hand work, i thought the name was perfect

i used Sullivans quilt basting spray

and for me....IT WORKED WONDERFULLY

i can't wait to baste another quilt

it was perfectly flat

i used a sample of some batting that my cousin gave me

she works where they make it

well, this was thicker than i thought and i couldn't machine quilt it

thus the reason it was hand quilted

i know, i said i ~~hated~~ dislike hand quilting

NOT ANY MORE

i found this very soothing

my secret? i watched Serena hand stitch at our sew-in day

and got a few tips from watching her

these blocks were from a online quilting group i was in last year

there was 12 of us and i only received 9 blocks

i made the other 3........i choose 1930's repro fabrics

i even found some ~~ugly~~ old looking mauve colored binding

i thought it was perfect for this quilt

i wasn't sure what i'd do with this quilt

but normally, i don't hold onto them long

till something comes up

i posted it on Facebook and a friend asked me to

donate a quilt to her Relay for Life (Cancer) team for her to raffle

DONE........i'll send her this quilt Monday

I know in the past, I've posted about Nienie

she's amazing.

She and her husband are recovering from a near fatal plane crash.

She inspires me so much.

She IS my favorite blogger and blog to read.

I can't say I know how she is feeling,

but I can relate to

I struggle with weight, constantly.

I don't feel like the person I see in a full length mirror.

I have no full length mirrors in my house, but occasionally

when out, I'll catch a glimpse of myself and cringe.

There's not much I can do about it (health reasons) so i'm stuck with myself.

I'll just continue to remember,

you all know my love for buttons...

and i'm not sure how to deal with this

other than

to just keep buying buttons

i got these from an unlikely source

i've never bought from them

however, my mom buys sunday school supplies

and i saw these buttons in there....

there is several hundred and they were less than $5.00

these are wood, and i love them

you know you do too

a few people wanted a tutorial on making the button bracelets

Zipper Installation Video Tutorial

So, we're not professional video makers...but I think you'll get the idea.

I think later I'll do another just for installing a zipper, and

one for perfect seams on the bottom.

Let's Talk Spray Basting

How many of you use spray basting?

It is my favorite way to baste

to me, it's quicker and much easier

especially since I don't have alot of space and have

to drag out an extra table to baste.

What are your favorite brands and why?

Just in looking this morning, it's very expensive,

so I want something that's good but not the highest price.

That is one thing I could get at Wal-Mart when they carried fabric,

they don't even carry the spray anymore.

Has anyone used Elmer's Spray Adhesive?
it says it's ok for fabrics, but i'm not sure about gumming up the needle.

Let me know what y'all think?
