I made them from Christmas scraps but they are useful all year round. I wanted something a bit larger than a coaster but smaller than a placemat because last year when I made placemats, the cats just slept on them as beds!!!!Mandyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02377737305239627169noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-80304749364339367702011-02-23T19:38:51.854-05:002011-02-23T19:38:51.854-05:00This did make me smile Tonya as I felt exactly the...This did make me smile Tonya as I felt exactly the same as you, but I have been told, a placemat is for the likes of your dinner plate etc, a coaster is for your cot or glass of wine etc a MUGRUG is for your cot and a BISCUIT. Job done. I have signed up for a mugrug swap. Give in girl and make one. hahahahajanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17430437953824196960noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-4018550439966139382011-02-21T19:55:50.583-05:002011-02-21T19:55:50.583-05:00I've not made one, either, and have wondered s...I've not made one, either, and have wondered some of the same things you mentioned here! I also have one on my desk that is actually being used. I can tell from the stains that it is actually doing it's job of protecting the desk top. I like it better than a coaster because you don't have to be so exact on where you set your cup.Stray Stitches (Linda G)https://www.blogger.com/profile/13745220686468103536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-78467851186732921362011-02-21T08:50:49.751-05:002011-02-21T08:50:49.751-05:00Tonya I thought the same has you. Though I did see a tempting argument for making one in that they are like little art quilts on which you can experiment new techniques. And they are small so you get a quick reward.Melissa ;-)https://www.blogger.com/profile/14733647867832856001noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-47832999629759710812011-02-21T02:59:10.032-05:002011-02-21T02:59:10.032-05:00I googled this very question the other day trying ...I googled this very question the other day trying to find out why all the coasters were so big! I've only been back in the "quilting world" since Oct after a long break knitting & crocheting and this seemed to have replaced (or joined) the fabric postcard and ATC frenzy in "let's swap" fads. Some out there are way too pretty to leave a coffee ring on!Laurie in Mainehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06022126513010116196noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-52319174047984553572011-02-20T23:39:39.960-05:002011-02-20T23:39:39.960-05:00I laughed at your post, Tonya, cause it actually m...I laughed at your post, Tonya, cause it actually makes sense.....however, I love this mug rug concept. I actually do put a mug of tea or coffee on mine and I put a cookie in it's spot on the mug rug. And I wash my mug rugs. It's really convenient to have one at my computer desk. They are fun to make because they're like making mini quilts. And the best part, they are finished projects in no time. I have so many unfinished projects that mug rugs make me feel like I am really accomplishing something. LOL! I'm going to post a little tutorial on my blog about the ones I've made because we are having a mug rug swap in my Yahoo group. I'm also participating in the mug rug swap at Quilting Gallery. Gee, if I make enough of them maybe I can sew them together and I'll have a big quilt. LOL! Ha ha ha! :-)<br />Have a good Monday!Sandi Linn Andersenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15275591320281892830noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4075387365881904982.post-89676083443615686762011-02-20T23:35:23.040-05:002011-02-20T23:35:23.040-05:00I think it's a cute, easy to give sized quilty...I think it's a cute, easy to give sized quilty gift! Yea, it's just a coaster, just a little bigger. Well, the loose buttons are on a mug rug that I have in my sewing room. I just made it to play around with some scraps, but I have to admit, it is pretty handy for cups of coffee, etc. I wouldn't, however, put food right on it. That doesn't make sense to me.Rachelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15195321113478744338noreply@blogger.com
