I like fancy borders but that one seems to be pulling my eye up to the border and away from the nice center of the quilt, so I'd think it's find with no border, too.
I have to go with no border. I too think it's too busy. I think if it was a plain border it would work perfectly. I agree with Pat, it draws you away from the main part of the quilt.
To answer your question - It's actually pine trees! I live near a swampy (but pretty) area, but mostly this area is farmlands and trees. This area is known for 100s of small lakes, but we are not on one!
I like the extra border personally.. love how it adds movement to it. Adds that extra flare. I would add another strip of white around then bind with the other fabric...;-) Lola
