Country Breeze

This is a wall hanging kit I got from Connecting Threads, called Country Breeze.  I just love that online store.  This was fairly easy to complete and guess what?  It's the first thing I've ever finished using a pattern.  I am normally horrible at reading patterens and doing the right thing.  However, this one was very easy.  I think I'll make another of these with different colors to give away.  I'm keeping this one. ;)

Bud the Bird

So, we've rescued a bird!  Either we take the bird or they were going to set it free.  We knew the bird would not last if they set it free.  His name is Bud, and he's a Cockatiel.  He can "cat call" whistle, and say "pretty bird"  He's very timid and shy.  We're pretty sure he wasn't very well taken care of.  And he for sure wasn't spoiled.  When he approach the cage, he backs himself into a corner.  He was in a ragged small black cage.  I got onto Ebay right away and got Bud a mansion.  As I was putting it together yesterday, you should have heard him hollaring and chirpping at me.  I wasn't sure what he was saying, but I was betting it was good.    He's so cute and I love watching him during the day.  Hopefully in time, he'll not be so shy and get used to us.  Welcome home Bud.
I made a not-so-fancy cover for his cage.  It's much easier than using a towel to cover him.

A Frame in a Frame in a Frame

What a perfect name for this small quilt.  This was a charm pack I ordered from Connecting Threads.  I really like Connecting Threads and have ordered a few other items from them.  Prices are great.  The centers of this don't exactly match up, and I LOVE that about it.  I was worried when one side didn't match up, and then the other....WOOHOO.  I knew it would be fine.  Not sure what I'll do with this yet.

Oh yeah, I have a confession to make.  Get the binding police ready, because I know they'll have a field day with this one.  I am not good at hand stitching the binding to the backs of quilts.  So, I was thinking and wondering how to make this easier on me.  I still blind sew it to the front, and then fold it over as if your going to hand stitch the back, and then I stitch something fancy down the front and it just happens to catch the back binding also.  Hmmmmm, how about that?  I like it alot more, and I don't think it takes too much away from the quilt itself.  I'm not entering contests anyway, so maybe the quilt police will leave me alone.  haha

Isaac's Quilt

I've been working on this for awhile.  Although, it's not that big that it should have taken me that long.  I just kept putting it on the back burner.  I knew I had 9 months to work on it, so I kept putting it off and working on other things.   Then all of a sudden, she's goes into labor 2 weeks early.  WHAT???  I'm still not done, you can't have that baby yet.  Anyway, they pick their own dates to come.

Here we have Isaac Joseph, my friend Julie's baby.  He's so adorable.

I made Curtains....

I thought I would try to make some curtains for our bedroom.  I wanted something that looked fancy, but really isn't.  This fabric was part of the Wal-Mart 50% off fabric.  It's sheer with embroidered cream colored tulips.  It matches our bed spread perfect.  I also draped some of the fabric around and over our headboard.  Kinda like a swag.  It needs more help.  I wasn't able to "swag" it so well.  haha

Tay's Love

I call this Tay's Love.  Our good friend Tay loves the Asian women.  We pick on him all the time about this.  He's so cute.

I had this fat quarter (and didn't know it) till I went through them all a week or so ago.  I knew I couldn't cut this and make something special for him.  I just quilted it simply and put a back on it the same color as that red on the front.  Then some black binding.  Just a small hanging for his room.  I hope he likes it.

Great Fabric Sale

What a deal I got myself this morning.  Our local Wal-Mart is doing away with all their fabrics.  :(  I am quiet sadden by this as this is where I get most of my fabrics and sewing supplies.  They say their still going to carry everything for sewing, minus fabrics.

Last week when I was in there it was 25% off.  They still had plenty and it looked as if no one was interested in their closeout.  Well, Tuesday, it went to 50% off.  I went this morning and someone has cleaned house.  Hardly anything was left.

I like what I got and look forward to using it.  You can see in the pic, I got 8 different kinds of fabrics and got 2 yrds each.  7 are checks, and the white background fabric is scrub material.  I'll make my mom a shirt or jacket out of this.  With 2 yards, maybe a shirt and jacket.

PS. Look at that low price I paid.  ;)

Star Explosion has a Sibling.

Back to seeing stars again.  I had these left over from the original Star Explosion Hanging.  I just can't stand to waste anything, so I came up with this smaller version of a hanging.

Now I'm done with these stars.  Well...........in this color anyway.

Laptop Cover

I made myself a laptop cover.  Kinda as a protector of sorts.  It normally sits on my sewing table.  However, my husband uses it if I'm on the desktop, or I'll move it around if I need the entire sewing table.  So, I thought a cover of some sorts would protect it just a little.  I've had these fabrics for awhile, they are part of a fat quarter monthly shipment I would get.  Man, I miss those.  Anywho.......I thought it turned out pretty well.  Just one thing........I wish I would have had a bigger button.  I can switch it out if I can one suitable.

It's a SNOW day.

Yep.........no school today.  So, that means my little man is home with mommy today.  And, that means, their might not be much sewing going on.  And that's totally fine with me.  I love it, when it's just me and him here all by ourselves.  No dad to share him with, and mawmaw isn't off work yet, so I don't have to share him with her either.  I can kiss all over him and hug him up and they'll never know.  (haha)  However, if Evan remember all the kissing and hugging when they get here, he'll tell them, just to make them jealous.  It's really pretty cute.  I know what some of you are thinking.  A boy liking all this affection from his mom and family??  So far, he's not gotten to old or proud for this.  We keep waiting for the day when he says "a kiss from mommy...ewwww".  I just hope it's not any time soon as it will break my heart.

I snuck into his room to see what he was up to.  I could hear him singing "we're going to make a touchdown".  When I heard that, I knew what he was doing........playing the Nintendo Game Cube.  After he had just left from in here playing the Wii.  He goes back and forth.  He truly has the best of both worlds.  But, what kid don't now a days.  I did manage to snap a picture of him playing.

We also managed to strip his bed of it's sheeting and covers.  Let's just say they needed a good bath.  ;)

It's time for a "Scrappy" quilt.

Ahhhh yeah, Scrap quilts are my favorite.  You can see at the bottom of my blog, I've made a scrap quilt before.  I call it patches.  We don't use Patches, it hangs with honor over our bed.

Here I am 3 years later and have plenty more scraps for another Patches type quilt.  Even with doing the Calendar Quilt Challengeand using scraps with that, I still have enough 2"x 2" blocks to do this quilt.    So, here I go on a "scrappy" journey.  Wanna go with me??
