Remember these........

After squaring them all up and finally making a decision, I ended up with this (see below)

A nice baby blanket for a girl (of course) or a lap blanket for my friend. I'm waiting to see if my brother's next baby will be a girl or boy. Should it be a boy, this will go to my friend. You get the point. Now I just have to find some backing material. I never have backing material. How about you guys? Guess that means.......shopping for fabric. Just not right now.

  3. I love those fabrics, but oh my, it's sooooo sad that you have to go fabric shopping.

  4. VERY nice, Tonya. I used to never have backing fabric. Then I decided to look at the clearance bolts in places like Joann's when they go down to prices like $2 a yard (and also look at thrift shops and yard sales) and I am in better shape for backings now.

  6. What a pretty quilt. I do the same thing as Pat - I look for on sale bolts of fabric to put into my stash for backings (unless it is something special and I then I buy the backing that is the best.)

  8. You did a great job on this! I love it! I also look for clearance fabrics that are cheap for backings. Like a previous post mentioned I try to keep it under 2.00 a yard unless it's a quilt I'll keep for an heirloom. I don't have a lot of backing fabric either. I tend to wait until the quilt is finished or piece backs from various materials.

  9. Oh so pretty in pink!!
I will piece a backing from what I have that will go.
I also will buy the sale fabs and LOVE finding great fabs at yard sales and thrifts.

  10. What a pretty pink. So soft and inviting for a little one. Any reason to shop for material is okay by me!!

  11. Wow - that's so pretty. I have a jelly roll I'm thinking of using to make a quilt like that. I love the simplicity of the pattern.

I tend to piece my backings - nothing fancy, but I put two pieces of neutral coloured fabric together with a 'racing stripe' down the middle. That way I can use up some leftover fabrics and save my $$ for new stuff.

  13. Beautiful quilt. Like you, I never have enough for the backing. That's why I pieced the backing for my musical angels quilt. I'm sure if you force yourself, you can find your way to the fabric shop for some backing fabric.

  14. Your quilt is very pretty. I don't always have backing fabric either but I look for material on sale, look for material at tag sales or sometimes I use material left over from other projects and sew them together and viola... a nice backing!

  16. Tonya it is beautiful. You know I have read where some bloggers are using sheets for backing. I bet you can get some cotton ones at wal-mart or ross for a really good price.

  17. I don't always have what I **want** for backing, but I usually have some fabric I could use.

When I am doing "quilt as you go" I have to have whatever before I get started good -that helps keep me in line. LOL

  19. Very nice when will you know if it a girl or a boy then, as for backing fabric for the most part i use fabric i had bought which i may or may not use on the front i don't buy special backing fabric that said if i see fabric that is wider than the 42-45 inches then it tends to be for backing i have seen some wide fabrics & may get them just for backing if i was doing a large quilt but otherwise it what i have in the stash i guess this is because we not got such a wide choice here in the UK
