Star Explosion Hanging

**UPDATE**  I finally got the backing and binding on this cutie.  I'm not sure what took so long, I think I was afraid of the binding.  This was the start of "making my own binding".  I thought I did very well, for making it myself and sewing it on the front and tacking it on the back.  What??  You want to see the back??  NO WAY...........it's my first tacking job and no way.  I'll be sure to hang this one, so no one can see the back.  lol  Click on the picture and you'll be able to see better my "binding" job.

"I'm seeing stars".  How lovely this turned out.  Thanks so much to Brown Dirt Cottage and her star tutorial.  This was so fun to make.  I already had the 2 center stars.  Then after her tutorial, I made the top 3 and the bottom 3.  I added bunches of extra stitching, (I call it quilting).

I don't have a back on it yet, or binding.  I'll have it all finished by tomorrow.  I just could not wait to get it posted and to thank Belinda.  I sent her an email personally.  Gosh, I love you quilting "bloggers".

  1. I love the colors you've chosen. I've also saved the tutorial you used so I can come back to it later. I'm not ready for stars yet but it won't be long!

  2. WOW Tonya.....what a 'wiz' you are.....'speedy gonzales'....this is just THE best. Thank you so much for trying out my tutorial. I see that you 'got it'...making sure you have good enough contrast between the two fabrics so your star will show up good. You go girl! I'm going to do a 'short' follow up this morning with some stars I made using different fabric choices.

  5. I like your stars and I love your choice of colors. Do you normally use bright colors? I am also intrigued by your tool in a previous post.

  6. GREAT job on the binding. I love doing it that way...it's my favorite finished look (even though it takes longer than the bindings that are done all by machine). I think this was the right way to go with this quilt. It's such a FUN quilt. Thanks for sharing the picture and the closeup of the binding, too. :)
