Patriotic For my Secret Pal

I will gift this to my secret pal from church. (which happens to be my mom, how lucky am I) I like the way the blocks all turned out. However, I'm not certain I like the way I quilted this. I can do better. I used red, white and blue thread throughout. She'll love it. The fact that it's handmade and made by me. She couldn't be happier. Well, unless E made it. That would make her happier. A good friend gave me this pattern as she had made it and was done with the pattern. I had a bit of trouble following the pattern and I think mine is bigger than it should be. But, it's all good.
This is the back....duhhhh as if you didn't know. Kinda cute, I had some problems with the red thread. I even changed the bobbin and a different spool of thread and still had some stitching problems. Then as soon as I took the red out, it was fine. Picky machine.....

Never mind the writing on the pictures. I'm playing in Photo shop to mark all my pictures in this sort of way. I like the writing on the back best. Just a quick name, name of quilt and date. I have a huge file on the computer of pictures of everything I've made. I would like to import them all into a photo album of some sorts.

Do you take pictures of everything you complete? How do you keep them?

  1. I love the quilt....that is so clever! And your quilting is great. I tried to use a red, white, and blue thread on my 4th of July quilt, but my machine wouldn't play nice. So back to the same old, same old!

  2. I love what you did for your secret pal. I struggle with machine quilting but I am determined. About the time I get comfortable with it I mess up. I usually take pictures of my finishes. I put them in a Picasa folder. Sometimes something gets away before I get a pic. Digital cameras have made it so much easier.

  3. Love the quilt! Very cute!! I take a picture of all my sewing projects. I have a Mac, so I have iphoto. I have a folder there that is marked "sewing" and that's where all my pictures go. I also just recently started a flickr account, and have added most of my photos there.

  4. I know that your mom will love it. It is perfect for the season now and will be able to be displayed often throughout the year.

I try to take photos of what I do and keep it all on disks. I also have a small photo album where I print some of them out for references.

  6. Lovely Patriotic piece. I know your Mom will love it! I do try to take pictures of things I have made. I always used a film camera until very recently. Film pictures are in the little 4 x 6 albums you get a Walmart. The digital are just in my pictures file on the computer right now. I think it is good to document what you've completed.

  7. I like how it turned out, Tonya. I also do take photos of everything I make....had intentions of making a scrapbook of all my quilting projects, but I've not started it yet. *sigh* ANOTHER thing on my "someday" list. LOL

  8. Love it!!! I am sure she will adore it! Did good as far as I can tell!!! Sometimes with different threads need different needles and need to adjust tension or stitch length. Also keep same thread on bobbin as on top.
Yes I try to get pics. Save to my pc.
I keep saying I am going to add my info on pics too but forget to 'play' with it to figure out.

  11. I take pictures of everything I make and I try to take pictures all through the process (sometimes I forget). I set up a file called "Quilts", or whatever it is, and then a separate file for each item. I have finished quilts, etc., on Webshots but am not really good about keeping that updated. What I need to do is backup my pictures: maybe tomorrow. lol

  12. Your patriotic blocks and the quilt are beautiful...red-white-blue are always stunning.
I take pictures and post on my blog...and then I have an album that everything I do I put in it and the name, who is for, where and when, for what purpose....designers name...size...I have done it for years....I can always refer to it...it is great online but if they do away with the site it is gone ...I am a hard copy person...safer that way...
