Dashboard vs Google Reader

Well, I used to read everyones blog via my dashboard. For the last 2 days, it don't show me following anyone. I've signed in and out several times and even rebooted my computer. Still not following anyone...........so, I clicked on the link "read in google reader" and have been reading that way. I'm not real sure how to use google reader. It does show all my blogs I'm following WOOHOO. And beside each one is a bold number in parentheses. What does that bold number mean? I must say, I liked my "dashboard" much better.

UPDATE: I think I've figured it out. Since I've never used Google Reader, it thinks I've not read my blogs. So the bold number in parentheses is the amount of post it "thinks" I haven't read. My number is 1000+ lol. So, I'm scrolling through it really fast, and slowly that number is going down. Thanks in advance and sorry for this silly post.

  1. I've also had some odd problems with blogger today. Hope it's their problem and not mine.

  2. Oh I love reader..the bold numbers are the number of posts that blogger has posted since YOU last check it. Once you read the blog it is no longer in bold. It is a great way to keep up. I used to use the Dashboard but reader seems to work better for me.

  3. My blog lists disappeared yesterday but they're back today. I'm guessing they were doing some sort of maintenance or update to Dashboard yesterday.

  4. If you click on the heading (mine says "Blogs I am following") then look towards the top center of the page -there is a button to "Mark all as read" That can save scrolling thru all of them.

  6. I think many of us lost our followings. Glad it's fixed. I used google reader too although I must say I like dashboard better.

  7. I use google reader. If you start at "all items" -where it says 1000 for you and start reading down it will show the newest first (ones you really haven't read). When you reach the ones that you have read, you can click on "mark all items as read" - you should go down to 0. Then in the future it will only show you new ones. I don't have dashboard, so have had to learn this one.

  8. I love Google reader but I can't tell you anything about it. It seems easy to me. It shows on my home page when someone posts a new blog entry.

  9. The Dashboard thing has been on and off again for me the last couple days. Right now it is on if I use Internet Explorer to access my blog. But it is off if I use Google Chrome to get there.

  10. I haven't a clue about Google Reader. I'm going to have to learn about it. Thanks for telling me about it. Now I've got to check it out.

    Thanks, Tonya.

  11. I have added a folder called blogs & forums & then i can click on favourites to add them to it.
When i get to the computer first time in the day i will look at the blogs i have in my favourites & work through them i find this is easier than any other way, i may follow a few that are not in my favourites as they may only post occasionally so then those i check from my dashboard, that how i do it
