Some of my b-day LOOT and current project.

Woohoo.........mama's got some new goodies. I was a little disappointed in the fabric selection. It just seemed like I couldn't find anything I "really" wanted. The green, blue and pink/brown are fat quarters. For no particular reason, other than they caught my eye. I can always use white thread. The breast cancer fabric I got for my mom and aunt, I'm going to make them a matching wall hanging. They've both been struck with breast cancer (among other cancers) and their younger sister died of breast cancer at age 38. Also, their mother died when my mother was 18 of breast cancer. So, this will hold a special place in their hearts. And it's a surprise............sooo SSHHHHHHHHH. I also got some yardage of muslin or whatever it's called. And see that shiny silver pad under all this? It's an ironing pad. We all know, I have a very small space to sew in. I had a small ironing board that would go from under my table, to on my table, to under my table, to on my table. Get the point? I hope this works well for me.
This is my current project. Totally my idea and I didn't see this anywhere. Seriously...........most things I make, I get an idea from somewhere. This is for the hubs grandma........she totally loves anything I make. You can tell, she really treasure's it. I made her a summer table runner. I bet she still has it on her table. And just so........it's still summer. Here I have her a Fall hanging or whatever she wants to do with it. It's not finished. Noticed the dead grass at the bottom. If you've been to California in the summer, you'll understand why I made the grass DEAD. I'll post a pic once it's finished.

  1. Sorry your fabric hunt was a bit of a bummer. I've had a few of those lately myself. I went to a local quilt shop yesterday and heard them treat one customer like complete garbage. Don't know if I'll be going back anytime soon. I felt bad buying the few fat quarters I did after hearing it.

Love Love Love the table runner!!

  3. I love that you are into doing your own creations. I love the dead grass. I have been to California in the summer and I 'get' the dead grass, and I think that's going to be a wonderful and unusual piece... you may get folks wanting you to make and sell them patterns.

I hope you are getting your regular check-ups with your family history being what it is... and I'll be anxious to see your breast cancer wall hanging creation.

  5. Looks like you had some fun shopping for fabric, even if you're not totally sold on what you purchased. I'm sure you'll find the perfect project for each one.

  8. Sorry that the big shopping outing wasn't all it was built up to be. Oh well....thread is GOOD!

The grass probably wouldn't be too dead this year with our summer as cool as it has been. I know she will love your piece.
