Vintage Sheet turned Quil 2-Hand quilting.

Calling all hand quilters. I decided to go with hand quilting vs machine quilting. I used the same material on the backing as I did for the front, so it's really thin. Thank goodness for the batting in between. Maybe between that and the "glue" and my stitching it will stay together somewhat. My plans were to use this quilt, but I'm really afraid to. Especially since I'm hand quilting it and this is my first project and I'm not sure how well it will stay together. I guess we'll see when it's done. I have one block down and 14 to go. *sigh* Let me know what you all think, how does this look? I used a very soft pink for hand quilting.

  2. I agree with Pat. I think it looks wonderful. Yes it will take some time, however you'll enjoy the whole process. I love hand quilting...it takes me back to pioneer days. Just wish there were still quilting bees around. I probably wouldn't use the quilt just because of it's thinness, however I would display it, either on a wall or over a door. Can't wait to see it completely done. You've done a wonderful job.

  3. It's very nice, Tonya. The Holly Hobbies remind me of when I was a little girl. I had a Holly doll and my sister had Carrie. We were so 'into' Holly Hobbie!

Wow - you're going to hand quilt. I think it will definitely enhance the old-fashioned feel of the quilt. But what a lot of work. I say that because I started hand-quilting a table topper... ummm... last fall?... and I still don't have it finished. It was supposed to be my t.v. project, but I guess I don't watch enough t.v. haha.

  5. I think if it's not used daily (or used with care) and is always washed with care, you can feel free to use it. Look at how long some of the OLD quilts have lasted and they were ALL done by hand!

  8. Tonya, this is very very pretty!
I have a set of Precious Moment's sheets that we got as a wedding gift, and I started making a quilt out of it. Now you have inspired me to get it out and finish!
You are doing a beautiful job with your stitches. Are you having fun?

  9. This is great. I love the Holly Hobbie and agree that the hand quilting seems to be a good idea. I like how you are outlining the picture. I hope one day to find a sheet similar, I love it!
